Submitted by Vincent’s niece, Betty Loewenthal.
A thoughtful man with little excess
Was joined into the Kelly mess
He managed well for several years
To cope with Kelly hysteria and tears
His escape was to walk and read
And studying politics fed his need
To make his own Mark within the Kelly breed
But even this fiercely independent man
Succumbed in the end to the Kelly clan
Becoming a much-loved figure of their affections
(Even if if he went off sometimes in his own direction)
Vince Norman questioned everything,
From gun laws, the state of the nation,
Whether today’s pop stars could sing
He’d say black was White and night was day
There was no subject on which he did not have a say
(Like his buddy Obama the two greatest orators of the USA)
His caustic wit, his intellect
Like my father Uli, was bigger than the Internet
His decency, his open smile
Vince Norman had a lot of style
his legend has spread far and wide
Across the pond, to the other side
Like Michelle and Barack
They were our first man and lady
(even if Water Street was not quite as stately)
His offspring are his legacy
Three stunning personalities
Vince loved his city
A native new Yorker
A devout walker, and a superb talker
In his concrete jungle
Where dreams are made
To me he will always represent the New York state
So whilst we grieve the passing of Vince
As Shakespeare said “goodnight sweet prince”
“And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest”
Uncle Vince you were the best.
